BOLERO ANDALUZ
The bolero comes from the end of the 1700s, from the flat-crowned hats of the toreros and from the dance that gave it its name. It's a shape built to be seen from the side: flat crown, wide flat brim, nothing wasted.
Hand-blocked in sinamay, a fine weave of abaca fibre dampened and steamed over a wooden form until it holds the shape on its own. The brim edge is reinforced and bound by hand.
Finished with a band and a fan in pinukpok, the same abaca plant beaten by hand until it turns soft and silky, pleated and knotted at the side.
Material — sinamay (abaca fibre) is a natural fibre. Keep it dry, store it in its box.
