An 18th-century silhouette, brought back for now.
The tricorne began with Spanish soldiers who tied up the sides of their wide-brimmed hats to keep them out of their eyes. Louis XIV made it the hat of Europe, and by 1750 women were wearing their own, tilted to one side and covered in flowers. Then it disappeared for two hundred years.
Hand-blocked in sinamay, a fine weave of abaca fibre that is dampened and steamed over a wooden form until it holds its shape on its own. The brim edge is reinforced and bound by hand. Finished with a rosette in silk and sinamay and three ostrich feathers that catch the wind.
Material: sinamay (abaca fibre) is a natural fibre. Keep it dry, store it in its box.
